Walter feels useless. He can barely maintain a chauffer's job driving white people around. He cannot properly support his family and his liquor store scheme combusts when his "friend" runs off with the money. There is, however, some redemption for Walter. Karl Lindner when it would have been easier to accept Lindner's financial offer.
