What is the theme in A Lantern in Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich?

Dreams are a major theme in this story. From the time Abbie is a small child she is a dreamer. Abbie dreams of her grandmother Mackenzie, a wealthy, sophisticated woman who had style and grace. Abbie wants to be just like her grandmother, to be somebody that other people look up to.
