In the chapter titled, Cemetery, Zippy's mother confronts her father about fixing up the closet. Her mother refuses to let him be the one to leave and drive away, and because she lacks a driver's license, she hops on Zippy's bike to make her grand exit. Zippy foreshadows that her mother will leave again.
