A motif of the book is good vs. evil. Many of the characters can be grouped into these two categories. Micky and Augusta are the main characters in the evil group. They do whatever they have to do to achieve their goals, even if it means murder. Edward and Joseph usually go along with whatever they want, never questioning their real motives.
