Who is Praxiteles from A Coney Island of the Mind, Poems and what is their importance?

Praxiteles appears in Chapter Three: Poems from Pictures of the Gone World (1955). He is a sculptor of bronze trees, stone doves and lovers. His sculptures were immortal, Praxiteles sadly died at twenty-eight, proving that sculpture is not for the young.
