I think that redemption is the main theme of A Christmas Carol. It is a joy to see the bitter miser Ebenezer transforms himself to a benevolent friend of the poor. His redemption, a major motif in Christian art, is made possible through free will. Like Scrooge, we all have the capacity to make ourselves better.
