The main cause of conflict is the voting attached to a young man's trial for murdering his father. Juror Eight (protagonist) is concerned with justice. Juror Three (antagonist) is unable to move past the anger concerning his own relationship with his son to do the right thing. He is the last of the jurors to vote not-guilty.
