Why did Shakespeare write Othello?

Shakespeare wrote the play, Othello, in order to record the political and racial conflicts between Europeans and non-Europeans in the 17th century. It is also widely believed that Shakespeare wrote the play to suit the interests of King James I, as the king had an avid interest in Turkish history and customs.
