The "Great Leap Forward" was an unsuccessful attempt made under Mao Zedong to accelerate the process of industrialization and improve China's agricultural production by reorganizing the population. As a result, the people were gathered into large rural collectives, in which, labor-intensive industrial methods were implemented.
