Before his appointment, Becket's loyalty belongs completely to the king. After he becomes the Archbishop of Canterbury, Becket takes his appointment very seriously. He renounces his past life and devotes himself to the Church. He then begins his journey to embrace his religion. As a result, Becket puts God first, and Henry cannot compete for his loyalty. Becket defends the honor of God, whereas, King Henry defends the honor of the realm.
