Why was Scrooge's former sweetheart named Belle?

It is possible that she was named Belle because she was beautiful.  Belle is a very common name.  It doesn't seem like the name is too important unless you want to stretch it and say that since Belle resembles the word 'bell' that Belle brought joy, music, and light into Scrooge's life.  That, however, is speculation.  It would be best to concentrate on her importance and her effect on Scrooge.
