One of the reasons October was created was to aid teachers of the lower elementary grades in their efforts to teach a unit using the themes of Halloween. A child's book emphasizing Halloween, with poems, customs, stories, and pages for creative writing, is contained herein. There is also an essay about Columbus Day which we celebrate on October 12. A series of worksheets have been developed for use in learning centers. They emphasize vocabulary and the making of compound words, inference, and creative writing. Recipes involving student participation and which are appropriate for Halloweed are indluded in this book. Also included are ideas for an October calendar, a number of bulletin board ideas that feature Halloween and atutumn, and fabric art ideas.
