Volume 3, Chapter 8

Mr. Gardiner writes to tell Mr. Bennet to think nothing of the debt and to let him know that Wickham has agreed to leave the militia and join the regulars. His post is going to be in the far North. Mr.

Bennet, Elizabeth, and Jane are happy about the distant home of the newly weds, but Mrs. Bennet is upset to have her favorite daughter living so far away. Mr. Bennet is still so angry with Lydia that he refuses to allow her at Longbourn. Only Jane and Elizabeth finally convince him to let Lydia and Wickham visit before they leave for the North. Elizabeth isn't particularly excited to see either of them, but she knows it's for the best.
