The three witches meet Hecate on a heath. Hecate is angry with the witches for telling Macbeth of his fortune without calling on her at all.
She tells them that they have done all their work for a selfish man who thinks only of his own fortune. Hecate tells the witches to meet her in the morning because Macbeth will be coming back to them to learn more of his fate. The witches and Hecate shall enchant Macbeth to believe that his position is secure and assured, "And you all know, security / Is mortals' chiefest enemy." Act 3, Scene 5, lines 32-3 Hecate and the three witches depart.
