Maya is bored and depressed at home. She decides to go to work on the streetcars as a conductor. Her mother tells her that black people aren't allowed to work on the streetcars. At first, Maya is disappointed, but then she gets angry and decides to change the rules. Her mother supports her, saying, "Can't do is like Don't Care. Neither of them have a home."
