Yesterday, Showtime’s President of Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, announced that the network, Lionsgate and Madman Entertainment have teamed up to present White Boyz In The Hood, a ten-episode series that will debut October 5 (11 p.m. ET/PT). White Boyz In The Hood will feature 30 white comedians who made their bones performing for black audiences. Radio personality Talent will host the show.
According to Anthony Maddox, Madman’s founder and president, White Boyz In The Hood will break down racial barriers by showing black audiences’ willingness to accept white performers.
“These performers are the Larry Birds of comedy in that they can go into any space, any room, and perform on a high level,” Maddox says. “Funny is funny’ doesn’t matter where you live.”
Featured comedians include Redbone, a veteran of BET’s Comic View, Honest John, also a Comic View vet, Rich Vos of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and Kurt Metzger, who wrote for Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central.
Showtime's enjoyed the success of the dramatic series “Soul Food” for years. Lionsgate is known for producing films like “Monster’s Ball” and “Crash,” which won Best Picture at the 2006 Academy Awards. Madman’s Maddox has worked on several hit television productions, including the VIBE Awards, all shows which cater to the Black audience.
