Whoooo! Welcome to the final, stinky stretch of summer! Yes, soon enough—not soon enough for us—it will be ta-ta to calloused feet in flip-flops and helloooo to the patent-leather Mary Janes that are already filling shop windows! Au revoir to dining al fresco on sooty Seventh Avenue and bonjour to eating weird game meats and slurping hot cider by some hunky amateur chef dude’s cozy fire! Goodbye to airheaded pulp fiction and greetings to Serious Literature! But not quite yet, which is why we’re headed today to a panel discussion about the “hip and chic in-and-outside world of ‘Chick-Lit’ and ‘Lad-Lit’” (so quoth the press release). On the dais: Carrie Karasyov, author of The Infidelity Pact, the awesomely named Caprice Crane—who even cares what she’s written?—and the brilliant Jennifer Belle, whose work far transcends the silly label “chick lit.” Also today, you can support manifold creative endeavors of a talented New York family by attending the Charlotte Ronson sample sale. This is the Ronson twin who’s a clothing designer, not the lesbian DJ pal of Lindsay Lohan … we think … we’re still dizzy from examining their MySpace pages. By the way, have you noticed how some 40-something Upper West Side dads are going on MySpace now to promote their bands, sort of ironically but sort of not? Creepy!

[Word for Word Author Series: Women’s Fiction Panel Discussion, Bryant Park Reading Room, 42nd Street, 12:20 p.m., www.bryantpark.org; Charlotte Ronson sample sale, 1071 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 301, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.]
