As of Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at least 3,700 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 3,036 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is 12 higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 168 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, South Korea, one death each.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 27,409 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department's weekly tally.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

_ Three soldiers were killed Monday by an explosion near their vehicle in Ninevah province.

_ One soldier died Tuesday of wounds from combat in western Baghdad.

_ Five U.S. service members were killed Tuesday near Anbar province when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed during a routine post-maintenance test flight.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_ Marine Sgt. Michael E. Tayaotao, 27, Sunnyvale, Calif.; died Thursday from wounds suffered during combat operations in Anbar province; assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

_ Four soldiers died Saturday in Arab Jabour of wounds from an explosive. All were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Killed were Army Staff Sgt. William D. Scates, 31, Oklahoma City; Army Sgt. Scott L. Kirkpatrick, 26, Reston, Va.; Army Sgt. Andrew W. Lancaster, 23, Stockton, Ill.; and Army Spc. Justin O. Penrod, 24, Mahomet, Ill.
