As of Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at least 3,380 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,751 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is eight higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 148 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 20; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, six; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, one death each.

_ A soldier was killed Tuesday in Diyala province.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

Six soldiers died Sunday in Baqubah when an explosive detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

_ Army Staff Sgt. Vincenzo Romeo, 23, Lodi, N.J.

_ Army Sgt. Jason R. Harkins, 25, Clarkesville, Ga.

_ Army Sgt. Joel W. Lewis, 28, Sandia Park, N.M.

_ Army Cpl. Matthew L. Alexander, 21, Gretna, Neb.

_ Army Cpl. Anthony M. Bradshaw, 21, San Antonio, Texas.

_ Army Cpl. Michael A. Pursel, 19, Clinton, Utah.

_ Army Staff Sgt. Virgil C. Martinez, 33, West Valley, Utah, died Sunday in Kadhimiyah from an explosive and small arms fire in Baghdad; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

_ Army Sgt. Sameer A. M. Rateb, 22, Absecon, N.J., died Sunday in Bayji from injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

_ Army Spc. Robert J. Dixon, 27, Minneapolis, died Sunday in Baghdad when an explosive detonated near his vehicle; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
