U.S. military deaths in Iraq at 3,146

As of Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at least 3,146 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,522 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is 11 higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Tuesday at 10 a.m. EST.

The British military has reported 132 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 19; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, six; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, one death each.

Since the start of the U.S. military operations in Iraq, 23,530 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department's weekly tally.

_ Army Sgt. 1st Class William C. Spillers, 39, Terry, Miss., died Saturday in Baghdad from a non-combat related injury; assigned to the 230th Finance Detachment, Jackson, Miss.

_ Army Pfc. Justin T. Paton, 24, Alanson, Mich., died Saturday in Taramia by small-arms fire; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

_ Army Pfc. Chad E. Marsh, 20, Wichita, Kan., died Sunday in a grenade explosion in Baghdad; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

_ Army Sgt. Matthew S. Apuan, 27, Las Cruces, N.M., died Sunday of small-arms fire in Baghdad; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

_ Army Sgt. Pedro J. Colon, 25, Cicero, Ill., was killed Monday in Baghdad; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

_ Army Spc. Montrel S. Mcarn, 21, Raeford, N.C., was killed Monday in Baghdad; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
