With their highly-anticipated album, Game Theory, scheduled for an Aug. 29 release on Def Jam Records, the Roots will be touring till nearly the end of the year.
The Philadelphia-based group will be performing at Promo West with special guest Common tonight (July 20) in Columbus, Ohio. From there, the Roots will make stops in cities like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Boston, Newark and New Orleans, before ending the national part of their Kool Tour in St. Louis on Oct. 1.
Following the national outing, the Roots will start making international stops on their Game Theory World Tour beginning in Norway on Nov. 15. From there they will visit Sweden, Denmark and Germany, before wrapping up in Ireland on Dec. 19.
Throughout the years the Roots have been known as the hip hop road warriors for their grueling touring schedule.
“We love it, but really our survival really depends on us staying on the road,” the band’s drummer ?uestlove exclusively told Vibe.com. “That’s why we put so much care into our live presentation because that’s how we make our living. The live show to me is its own animal and when you do these songs 200 hundred days of the year you tend to do different versions and switch them up occasionally because you don’t want your show to be stale. Some of the same people come back time and time and time again.”
