3. Thanksgiving
Go easy on the carbs and heavy on the pigskin: Feast on NFL’s Turkey Day triple-header Nov. 22. For starters, Brett Favre and Green Bay take on the Detroit Lions at 12:30 p.m. ET on FOX. CBS serves up seconds when the New York Jets visit the Dallas Cowboys at 4:15 p.m. ET. Finally—dessert: The Atlanta Falcons host the defending champion Indianapolis Colts on the NFL Network at 8:15 p.m. ET.
4. Hoop Time
The NBA doesn’t offcially start until Oct. 30, but there are plenty of preseason scrimmages (119, to be exact) to satisfy your basketball jones. Must-see matchup: Greg Oden and the Portland Trailblazers host Kevin Durant and the Seattle Supersonics Oct. 24.
5 Beowulf
The oldest story in the English language gets the 3-D treatment when Beowulf hits theaters Nov. 16. This sword-and-sandals saga is based on an epic poem about a mighty warrior who dukes it out with a demon named Grendel. Speaking of which, who knew Grendel’s mom was such a MILF? A stunningly animated Angelina Jolie plays her on the big screen.
