They Blinded Me With Science! We just can’t get over the fact that there’s something called “The Science Barge” and that it’s docked at Riverside Drive and 70th Street. Apparently it’s “a sustainable urban farm powered by solar, wind, and biofuels, and irrigated by rainwater and purified river water.” We’d say odds are pretty good Al Gore is lurking on the poop deck—ahoy! For the moment we’re too busy for science because the gay boyfriend of our dreams, Rufus Wainwright, is slumming it with the un-paid crowd at SummerStage, and though we’ll personally never get over that Judy Garland concert he put us through, we’re going in hopes of hearing “Instant Pleasure”—which, when it came out way back when, perfectly expressed the life we wished we were living (and actually, still wish we were living). And speaking of the gays, back out in the Hamptons, GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) is hosting a fund-raising event with TV producer Darren Star at the home of Norman Spier. We called to find out a little something interesting about this Mr. Spier, and a rep for the event said, and—we quote—“I don’t know who he is.” Well, okay then! Mr. Spier, whoever you are, congratulations on your no-doubt lovely Hamptons home.
