How do you know you’ve arrived? When you don’t have to leave the Hamptons for anything so pedestrian as a desk job! Today, model Christie Brinkley, horsey mayoral daughter Georgina Bloomberg, heiress-confectioner Dylan Lauren and swimming-pool chronicler Kelly Klein show up to a screening of 3:10 to Yuma, starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale (not expected, sorry, gals!), organized by—who else?—Peggy Siegal, the hardest-working woman in showbiz publicity. Also supposed to show: Argentinian polo star, Nacho Figueras, who has severely diminished our odds of ever being attracted to an American man again. Back in the grubby city, author Sasha Issenberg plugs his book The Sushi Economy: The Making of a Delicacy. “New Yorkers eat sushi more than the Japanese do,” Mr. Issenberg told us.
“The paradigm of the New Yorker who has sushi three to five times a week, that doesn’t exist in Japan. It’s a special-occasion food. Americans treat their local sushi joint as they’d treat their local watering hole.” Argh, we knew we were pigs! “Sushi in the U.S. is better than anywhere in the world except Japan,” Mr. Issenberg continued. “Even your average joint somewhere on First Avenue whose name you forget—almost anywhere else in the world, it would be the best place in town.” So why is he doing his reading at Sebastian Junger’s joint, the Half King, which if we’re not mistaken doesn’t serve any sushi whatsoever? Ahh, never mind.
