The singer is upset that Jive went against her wishes and included the song “F*** Them Bitches” on her upcoming album Kelis Was Here, reports The New York Daily News.

“I just did [the song] to get it out of my system” she told the paper. “I did not want it on the album. It’s not a statement I want to make right now.”

The 26-year old singer and wife of rapper Nas has been in the game for over five years now and is disappointed that her label is still treating her like a newcomer.

“My label is constantly trying to take control of me,” she said. “I’m not a new artist. I’ve been working hard to create my persona and have longevity and they went against my wishes.”

Kelis is also concerned that people are misconstruing the meaning of her latest hit, “Bossy,” in which she proclaims, “I’m bossy/I’m the b**** ya’ll love to hate.”

“A lot of people think being bossy means bossing somebody around,” said Kelis. “But it’s about being in control of your life. I’m fighting to be my own woman.”

Creatively, the singer continues to etch her own path by discontinuing her work with producer-duo The Neptunes—the ones responsible for her biggest hit, “Milkshake”—claiming that she wants to prove that she’s more than just The Neptunes’ puppet. Instead, she’s turned to the production talents of Linda Perry, Scott Storch, will.i.am, and Raphael Saadiq for her latest project.

Kelis Was Here is scheduled to hit shelves August 22.
