Is there a way to guarantee that the person who is elected President of the United States in 2008 will be someone who intends to end the war in Iraq as soon as possible? Yes, there is -- by making sure that the 2008 presidential nominees of both major parties are anti-war candidates, and thereby locking down both sides. While it's a foregone conclusion that this will be true of the Democratic nominee, it appears likely that the Republican nominee will be someone who would continue the fight in Iraq indefinitely.

That's where primary voters come in. If, let's say, a large number of anti-war voters, who normally vote in the Democratic primaries, suddenly decided to vote in the Republican primaries this time around, they could greatly affect the outcome. It's even possible that their effort could help an anti-war Republican like Texas Congressman Ron Paul secure the 2008 GOP presidential nomination.

However, this would require some planning. In many states, Democratic voters would have to re-register as Republicans. In other states, they could get by with re-registering as independents (since those states allow registered independents to vote in either party's primary). In some states, which do no require party affiliation or registration, they would just to have to choose to vote in the Republican primary, instead of the Democratic primary, on voting day.

Are anti-war voters as serious about ending the war in Iraq as they claim to be? If they are, then they will get busy and start preparing to vote in the Republican presidential primaries in 2008.
