The Giants sacked Donovan McNabb nine times and Kawika Mitchell returned a fumble for a touchdown as New York took a 16-3 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth quarter on Sunday night.

Lawrence Tynes kicked a 29-yard field goal with 2:03 remaining in the third quarter as Giants extended their lead to 10-0. The score capped a 55-yard drive aided by a 32-yard pass interference penalty against Amani Toomer by Eagles cornerback William James.

The Giants increased the lead to 16-0 only 33 seconds later as Mitchell recovered a McNabb fumble and returned it 16 yards. Tynes missed the extra point.

The Giant defense hounded McNabb all night with eight sacks. Osi Umenyiora lead the charge with four sacks and Mathias Kiwanuka had two.

The second sack by Umenyiora set up the Giants second-quarter touchdown. It forced the Eagles to punt from deep in their end and R.W. McQuarters returned the kick 11 yards to the Eagles' 49.

David Akers booted a 53-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to get the Eagles on the board.

Eli Manning engineered a four-play drive, starting with passes of 19 and 17 yards to Amani Toomer. The score came as Plaxico Burress outjumped a defender in the corner of the endzone to give the Giants at 7-0 lead with 11:09 remaining.

The Eagles came closest to scoring with 3:52 left in the half when David Akers missed a 42-yard field goal wide left.

On the Eagles drive, Michael Strahan got his first sack of the season, and the Giants fourth in the game, to become New York's all-time leader. Strahan has 133 1/2, surpassing Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor.

In the first quarter, Tynes missed a 34-yard field goal attempt for the Giants.

The Eagles were shorthanded for the game, missing half back Brian Westbrook, cornerback Lito Sheppard, safety Brian Dawkins and offensive tackle William Thomas.
