Dwayne De Rosario, Eddie Robinson and Stuart Holden scored goals and the Houston Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 3-0 on Sunday.
Houston (14-7-6) pulled into a tie with Chivas USA for first-place in the Western Division with the win. FC Dallas (12-11-4) lost for the fifth time in its past seven games.
The Dynamo went 3-0-1 against FC Dallas this season.
De Rosario scored the game's first goal and his sixth of the year in first-half stoppage time. The ball bounced off the foot of FC Dallas' Pablo Ricchetti and directly to De Rosario, who dribbled for about 5 yards before firing a right-footed shot from 15 yards away into the right post for an unassisted score.
Eddie Robinson scored in the 62nd minute on a header from the top of the goalie's box. Richard Mulrooney set up the score with a corner kick from the right side.
The Dynamo held Dallas without a shot until Juan Toja's attempt in the 42nd minute, and that was it as FC Dallas had a season-low one shot on goal. Houston outshot FC Dallas 13-9 for the game.
Holden finished the scoring when he knocked a shot into the left corner of the net in the 84th minute.
In the 87th minute, a brief skirmish occurred between the two teams after Houston's Ricardo Clark kicked FC Dallas captain Carlos Ruiz in the right shoulder while Ruiz was on the ground. Clark was ejected from the game for violent conduct.
FC Dallas will be without its leading scorer, Ruiz, for its next game. Ruiz received yellow cards in the 17th minute and 89th minutes.
Pat Onstad finished with his ninth shutout of the season.
FC Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala finished with three saves.
