Dollar mostly up, gold falls in Europe

The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Tuesday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.3599, down from $1.3651 late Monday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.3603.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Monday, included 119.82 Japanese yen, up from 119.56; 1.2147 Swiss francs, up from 1.2077; and 1.1083 Canadian dollars, down from 1.1093.

The British pound traded at $1.9995, up from $1.9991.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 119.75 yen and 1.2151 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9988.

Gold traded in London at $677.50 per troy ounce, down from $680.70 late Monday. In Zurich, gold traded at $$675.70, down from $677.10. Hong Kong markets were closed.

Silver opened in London at $13.26 per troy ounce, down from $13.51.
