The idea of J.Lo as domestic wifey isn't what you'd expect if you believed everything written about her in the tabloids. "Jen doesn't allow her behavior to be dictated by anything other than how she truly feels-it makes her happy to get me some food, so she does it," says Affleck between bites. "I've had girlfriends who were Latina, some black, others white. But I've never been with anyone like Jen, who makes it a priority, deliberately goes out of her way, to ensure the person she's with is happy." "Affleck is whipped," some say. "He's under some kind of booty spell," they whisper. Five minutes around these lovebirds, however, will make believers of even the J.Lo-matrimony skeptics: Their relationship looks like it has forever stamped all over it. But hold up.
"Could this really be?" you wonder. Lopez wasn't even divorced when she accepted Affleck's 6.1-karat pink radiant cut diamond engagement ring last year. What could possibly make anyone believe this relationship won't end up in the graveyard? Lopez, 33, is finally in the best place she's ever been. And it's not the $12 million paycheck from movie roles, the$130 million that J.Lo clothing and Glow by J.Lo perfume generated in their first full year, or the packed house each night at her Pasadena restaurant, Madre's. It's not even the worldwide sales of more than 25 million for four albums, or the launch of her film company, Nuyorican Productions [see "J.Lo Inc.," page 96]. Beyond all this, it's her relationship with the 30-year-old Affleck in which she's learned her lessons on how to live. "You get to a point where you feel comfortable in your own skin," she says. "It's a great time for me 'cause I'm really happy. I feel like I'm about to start something new, to accomplish the dreams of having a family and growing as an artist."
