Popular American magazine rejects AJC ad-

The American Jewish Congress has publicly lambasted the popular American woman's magazine, 'Ms.', for rejecting a pro-Israel ad featuring portraits of woman currently occupying three of the most significant positions of power in Israeli public life.  The ad, which included the caption, "This is Israel", contained photographs of the Jewish State's current Supreme Court President Dorit Beinish, Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni and Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik.  According to AJC, the ad was rejected on grounds that it would stir up a firestorm, though according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Ms.'s executive editor Kathy Spillar argued that, saying that the ad violated the magazine's standards by showing support for a political party in government.

Scientists watch stem cells rejuvenate dead rat heart-

Scientists at the Stem Cell Institute of the University of Minnesota report in the journal Nature Medicine astonishing results of a lab test aimed at growing a viable and working heart muscle on a bed of dead animal tissue.  According to lead scientist Doris Taylor, researchers removed the heart of a rat, stripping it of all but just it's skeletal shell, a protein based matrix shaped like a heart and containing the conduits where blood vessels had once been.  This structure, which was then 'seeded' with cardiac stem cells extracted from a newborn rat, grew within just four days to the point of showing initial signs of muscle contractions in the new tissue.  Within eight days, the rejuvenated heart was pumping liquid, albeit faintly.  The scientists hope that seeding dead animal organs with live human stem cells may help with the nagging problem of immune rejection of new organs in transplant patients.
