Chimpanzees beat out humans in memory skill-
Reported in the journal Current Biology, Japanese researchers studying monkeys found that young chimpanzees have better working memory capability than adult humans. Pitting university students against the chimps, the investigators flashed random numbers from 1 to 9 on several quadrants of a computer screen, and tested to see how well the subjects could remember which number appeared in which location. They found that the primates were able to memorize patterns at a glance, even when the numbers appeared only briefly on the screen, prompting lead researcher Tetsuro Matsuzawa of Kyoto University to derive that the animals must have photographic memory recall. There exists a human phenomenon often associated with autism called eidetic imagery, in which a person captures details of a complex scene, in the blink of an eye, but this innate ability, though not uncommon in very young normal children too, is mostly covered over as language skills develop.
