For his two decades of comedic contributions including starring in "Martin," "Bad Boys," and "House Party," Martin Lawrence is receiving the 2005 BET Comedy Icon Award at this year's BET Comedy Awards.

Among the comparative newcomers, "The Bernie Mac Show" received the most nominations (eight), including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Mac), while "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" led the box office categories with a record seven nomination including Outstanding Theatrical Film and Outstanding Actor in a Theatrical Film (Tyler Perry and Shemar Moore). "Girlfriends" and "My Wife and Kids" are among the top nominated TV shows as well, with six and five nods, respectively.

BET viewers will have their chance to weigh in on an award when they vote for the Platinum Mic Stand-Up Award, which recognizes a stand-up comedian featured on the network who experienced breakout success this year. Fans can check out www.BET.com to find out how to vote.

The second annual BET Comedy Award, themed "Oh! No They Didn't," will be hosted by Steve Harvey and will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium with a live taping on September 25. The telecast premiers on BET on September 27 at 9 pm ET/PT. Tickets to the event can be purchased via Ticketmaster for $25-$50. Check out www.Ticketmaster.com to buy yours.
