Objective

Objective: The aim of this lesson is to introduce the main character, Roland.

1. With the students, decide what they think Roland's goal is in the novel. Divide the students into pairs and ask them to design a diagram that shows the different stages that Roland will have to complete to work towards his goal and how he can get back on track when he makes a mistake.

2. Divide the students into two groups. One group should research Roland's life and the other group should think of questions they like to ask Roland about his life. Finish the lesson with a question and answer session.

3. Ask the students to develop a scenario that puts Roland into trouble and swap their scenario with someone else. The aim is then to think how Roland's character would escape from that scenario.

4. Homework. Write Roland's character background.
