Preface

The book begins with Keith Basso speaking of his first involvement with the Western Apache in 1959. When he completed graduate school, Basso wrote articles and books on the Western Apache culture. The objective of this lesson is to examine anthropologist, Keith Basso.

1) Independent Work: Library Research and Biography: Students should find information on Keith Basso, such as his upbringing, education, career. Students should write a 2-3 paragraph biography on Keith Basso and be prepared to discuss Basso further as a class.

2) Class Discussion: When did Kieth first visit the town of Cibecue? Why was he captivated? What did Basso do after graduate school? What kinds of books did Basso write? Why was this significant?
