• Adichie says that the only TED conference speech she had given prior to the one in 2012 was called "The Danger of the Single Story" (3) and focused on the ways in which stereotypes limit people's thinking.

• The annual conference at which she gave her original speech about feminism is called TEDxEuston and the speech focused on issues important to Africa.

While Adichie was expecting mixed reviews of her speech, she felt encouraged when her audience responded to her speech with a standing ovation.
