Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

Tengo - He is the young son of a black couple who works for a farmer.

Frikkie - He is a young white boy who hopes to one day run the farm for his elderly uncle.

Joseph - He spends a couple of weeks at the farm when he and Tengo are young, tightening the relationship between the two boys.

Elijah - He is a part of a growing movement of students who protest the government, angry at the substandard education the blacks are allowed to have.
