Wade in the Water Song

Have the students listen to the song, “Wade in the Water” and write down and/or discuss connections between it and the poem by Smith.

Angel Encounter

One of Smith’s characters encounters angels. Have the students write a poem or short story about an angel encounter of their own. This could be a time in which something miraculous happened, such as a family member surviving an illness or managing to avoid a dangerous situation. They may also create a fictional encounter.
