Object Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Objects

The Baseball Bat - This object is red, white and blue and is a relic from Pogue's days of working in the Anatomical Division of the OCME. Unable to afford a bone grinder, Chief Medical Examiner Scarpetta's staff had to use these items to pulverize the pieces of bone that emerged from the crematorium intact. Scarpetta feels guilty over allowing such a barbaric practice in her own office. She feels the barbarism may have contributed to Pogue acquiring a taste for murder.
