Stamp Collecting

Stamps, throughout the story, are a part of Pieter's life and his friend Kappie's; his dad even buys some at one point in the story.

If I could collect any stamp it would be... If I could create any stamp it would be...

Now that you have their attention, have students cut out the edges of a piece of letter size paper (like the edges of a stamp, and have them draw, paint or otherwise create their stamp. Post all stamps around the class room).

Role Play

There are several vendors/merchants throughout this story - Kappie's store, Abraham's hotel, etc.

Have fun creating your role as store owner, etc. Make at least one prop or costume piece for your role, then have fun acting them out with your classmates.
