Chapters 1-2

Tisha's genre is not one that is instantaneously definable, as it is a combination of memoir (because it covers a very specific time in Hobbs's life), non-fiction (as Hobbs told her story to another author for the actual writing of it), and history (as it not only tells about Hobbs's life but what was happening in Alaska and the United States during that time). This lesson will help students become familiar with identifying literary genres and applying that knowledge to the literature they read, specifically Tisha.
