Objective

In "'Tis," Frank recalled the days after he immigrated to America. The objective of this lesson is to discuss the genre of the book.

Lesson

1) Research: Look up the following terms and write definitions: genre, non-fiction, fiction, memoir, journal, autobiography, and biography. Write the answers to these questions: What is the difference between non-fiction and fiction? What is the difference between an autobiography and a biography? Is a memoir a type of autobiography? Why or why not? Why might someone write a journal?

2) Class Discussion: Was the book written about a time that actually occurred in Frank's life? Was Frank writing mostly about himself and his memories or about someone else? Would the book be considered autobiographical or biographical? Why? Was the story meant to tell the whole story of Frank's life? Why or why not? What is the genre of the book? Is the book...
