Objective

Padraic Kelly has been gone for sixteen years, having disappeared on one of his excursions.

The objective of this exercise is to understand what motivates some people to leave their families to search for answers.

Lesson

1) Initiate a class discussion on the employment responsibilities and job descriptions of a pothunter and the effect this has on family. How is this different from an archaeologist, if at all?

2) Break the class up into groups of two or three and have each member assume the role of one of the Kelly family members. Compose a letter that you would send in Padraic's place, or imagine that you have just received such a letter. Skip and Nora both miss their father to this day. How would you react in their place?
