SIN - In this story, the characters have strange relationships with sin and punishment for sin. The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the idea of sin as it is presented in the novel and to discuss the various character's reactions to leading a sinful life.

Lesson

1.) Class Activity: As a class, create a list of sins that Hazel Motes attempted to avoid at all costs. Why was Motes so obsessed with a life without sin?

2.) Class Activity: As a class, compare / contrast Motes' view of sin with Asa Hawks' view of sin. What is the same about their viewpoints? What is different? Is there anything unexpected / surprising in this comparison?
