Objective

Objective: The students will be able to make extensions of topics based on information read.

1) Possible Activities:
* Throughout this story, isolation is discussed in detail. Have the students work in small groups of three or four and extend this topic of isolation into real life situations they have experienced. Have the students make connections between the text and their own personal lives. The information can be gathered and handed in or shared orally.
* In the beginning of this story, Daru's living situation is described in great detail. Have the students create a visual picture to match the text of the story showing how Daru lived.
* Have the students discuss orally as a class the personality traits it required to live a life of isolation as does a monk or Daru.
