Lesson 1 (from Introduction and The Undead: Myths and Realities: Solanum: The Virus)
Introduction and The Undead: Myths and Realities: Solanum: The Virus
The faithful narrator introduces this book and this idea of zombies with a few interesting facts along with the reason for the delay in its telling, and the unusual circumstances of the situation. The objective will be to discuss why this subject was introduced in this way, and what this reveals about the book and the people involved.
1) Read aloud with the class the part where the narrator says this subject is one of the most unusual and strange subjects most people will ever read or learn about. Have the students write about what they think will set this subject apart from all the others they have studied. Make sure they keep in mind that this book, although fictional, is being presented as a factual representation. Call on some students to read their work.
