Objective

Objective: Francisco is mistaken for a mercenary and jailed for two days. The objective of this lesson is to look at the motivations behind a person's choice to fight.

1. For class discussion: What does it imply to the reader to know that a character is a mercenary? What about Francisco do you feel fits into that description? Explain.
2. For class work: Have the students write out a scenario in which there is a battle. One side is filled with mercenaries and the opposing side are men and women that are fighting for something they believe in. Have the students give an ending to their scenario and explain why they feel a particular side would win. Do they feel this is a fulfilling ending? A realistic ending? Why or why not?
3. For homework: Have the students make out a list of topics historically that have been worth fighting...
