Chapters 1-5

· In Chapter 1, Kiana Roubini rides to school with her stepmother and half-brother, Chauncey.

· When they get to school, Chauncey throws up all over the car.

· Louise, Kiana’s stepmother, has to take him home and clean him up before she can enroll Kiana in school.

· Kiana came from California to stay with her dad and stepmother because her mother, who is an aspiring actress, is in Utah shooting a movie for eight weeks.

· The school bell rings, and Kiana sits on a bench to wait for her stepmother, who she calls “Stepmonster" (4).

· She sees a pickup coming towards her, and she has to jump over the back of the bench to avoid getting hit.

· The bench and her backpack are clipped.
