Kafka’s The Trial has been adapted to stage and film. Obtain and read/watch one of these adaptations and discuss its similarities and differences to the novel.
Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article involving some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the novel.
The Trial was never completed in Kafka’s lifetime and he ordered the manuscript destroyed upon his death, leaving only unnumbered chapters, some of which were incomplete. Conduct research on the different editions of the text and how they were compiled.
Draw a Character
Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the novel. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the narrator’s description to some extent.
