Philip Pullman, the author of "The Tin Princess," is a popular writer of fantasy novels. Some of his notable series of books include the Sally Lockhart series and the His Dark Materials series. This lesson discusses Philip Pullman, the novel's author.

Lesson

1) Library Research: Have the students research Philip Pullman, the author. Explore the other works he has written, as well as his background. Take a look at interviews and biographical information to gain information on his writing and where "The Tin Princess" fits in with his other novels and works.

2) Presentation: Have students get into pairs and prepare a presentation, using their research on Pullman and his canon. Have each group read an excerpt from different novels written by Pullman during their presentation.
